Fifty rain barrels are serving as the “canvas” for artists taking part in the fourth annual Rain Barrel Art Project.
The project, which is designed to educate the community about water conservation and pollution caused by storm water runoff, is a joint effort of SaveLocalWaters.org and the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden.
Designs for the rain barrels were solicited from the public, then artists painted and transformed the previously drab barrels.
Their creations will be on display at the zoo’s Go Green Garden throughout April and auctioned on Earth Day during the zoo’s Party for the Planet on April 21. The auction will be from 6-8 p.m. Proceeds benefit conservation education in the Ohio River Valley.
Businesses and organizations will share their expertise and resources about living more sustainably within our communities. Topics include solar energy, composting, recycling, energy efficiency, green building, rain gardens/barrels, sustainable food and green products.
