The University of Cincinnati Alumni Association will honor five graduates at the UC Distinguished Alumni Celebration.
The event will take place during Alumni Weekend. “Our 2016 class of Distinguished Alumni Award winners spans multiple fields and disciplines,” said Jennifer Heisey, executive director of the UC Alumni Association and vice president of alumni relations for the UC Foundation.
About the honorees:
Richard E. Thornburgh ’74, William Howard Taft Medal for Notable Achievement – For four decades, working primarily with Credit Suisse Group, Thornburgh has been a leader in the global financial industry. He built a reputation as an adviser on landmark merger-and-acquisition transactions and sector recapitalizations and privatizations, as well as an initiator of key investments that benefited the world economy.
Patricia C. Weller Bresler ’84, Distinguished Service Award – Bresler’s design career has spanned more than 25 years. As creative director at Brandimage in Cincinnati, she develops new brands and revitalizes existing ones. She has spearheaded numerous efforts to advance the College of Design, Architecture, Art and Planning, from board oversight and scholarship fundraising to student recruitment and event management.
Karen Bankston ’05 (Ph.D.), Mosaic Award – With a diverse career in the nursing field, Bankston is known for her devotion to decreasing health disparities in the community while increasing inclusivity and opportunity. She currently serves as associate dean of clinical practice, partnership and community engagement with UC’s College of Nursing.
Thomas A. Viola ’76, Mosaic Award – As the longtime leader of Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, Viola has supervised efforts that raised more than $250 million to help people living with HIV/AIDS and other vital health issues.
Julienne R. Cromwell ’01, ’03, Jeffrey Hurwitz Young Alumni Outstanding Achievement Award – Cromwell serves as an engineer and principal with one of the region’s premier design firms – THP Ltd. She mentors UC students, provides volunteer leadership for the civil and architectural engineering and construction management department, and teaches in her area of specialty, reinforced concrete design.
In addition, 14 college-specific award recipients will be recognized . Tickets are $100, or $75 for students and young professionals.
