A group of about 40 Duke Energy volunteers converged on Rising Stars Academy in Over-the-Rhine to create an outdoor educational space for the preschoolers.

The volunteers included Jim Henning, president of Duke Energy Ohio & Kentucky. Projects included outdoor murals; painting educational tools – like number lines and world maps – on the pavement; constructing planter boxes, garden beds and planting flowers; and building “nature play” elements like log balance beams and a spider web rope climb.

Cincinnati Public Schools opened Rising Stars Academy in 2016 to accommodate the increasing demand for preschool. The building, formerly home to Vine Street School, was refurbished over the summer.
