ProKids celebrates its volunteers

A troubled boy who found a home with his great-grandmother. A traumatized girl who finally has someone to count on. Three abused brothers who have enough stability they can finish high school.

These children – and about 800 others like them this year – are part of the reason Court-Appointed Special Advocates, or CASA volunteers, join ProKids. The work of CASA was honored at Fall Fling, the annual event where ProKids celebrates what is possible when a community cares about abused and neglected children.

Three volunteers were honored this year with the Darlene Kamine Advocate of the Year Award: Beth Adele Katerberg, Jim Lake and Carol Wiggers.
The event, held at the Kennedy Heights Arts Center, also included the swearing-in of volunteers who have completed the training program and are ready to speak up for children in the foster care system.
