Cincinnati Opera support boosts ROKCincy

Cincinnati Opera and Roundabout Opera for Kids: Cincinnati (ROKCincy) are joining forces to expand the reach of ROKCincy’s performances into schools and community centers in Greater Cincinnati and to enhance ROKCincy’s benefit to local artists.

ROKCincy is a nonprofit organization formed in 2012 with the mission of introducing young people to the thrill of live, fully staged opera, and to give developing professional musicians an opportunity to hone their performance skills. ROKCincy provides free performances and accompanying curriculum guides to schools and community centers.

“One of the most admirable aspects of ROKCincy is the performers. They’re not paid for their time, but rather volunteer their talents to spread the love of opera, and they gain invaluable performance experience,” said Evans Mirageas, artistic director of Cincinnati Opera. “As part of this new strategic partnership, Cincinnati Opera will offer ROKCincy participants special mentoring sessions, such as master classes or meetings with Cincinnati Opera staff or artists.”

“By utilizing Cincinnati Opera’s artistic leadership and community relationships, we can enhance the value of participation for the singers and broaden the reach of our program,” said Kelly Holterhoff, director of ROKCincy.

ROKCincy is presenting a tour of “The Wizard of Oz” through April 2016. Using the beloved story made famous by the 1939 film, the production features well known opera songs to enhance the drama and retell the tale.
