Cincinnati Opera is holding an information session and open casting call for nearly 100 non-singing, non-speaking roles in its Summer Festival performances of “Die Fledermaus,” “Tosca” and “Fidelio.”
Known as supernumeraries (or “supers”), the roles are much like extras in film and television.

No experience is necessary and all supers are volunteers. In addition to the performances, supers must attend 10-15 rehearsals, including some during the day.

Here’s a quick rundown:

“Die Fledermaus” – Commitment period May 24-June 18; performances June 16 and 18. Needed: 17 supers, including two children, 15 adults to play international hotel guests.

“Fidelio” – Commitment period June 13-July 9; performances July 7 and 9. Needed: 60 supers, including multi-generation families; 10 men ages 20-40, preferably with military background, one willing to be stripped to underwear on stage, another with stage combat experience; 10 children under 5 feet tall; 23 townspeople; members of the press/TV crew.

“Tosca” – Commitment period: June 28-July 29; performances July 23, 27 and 29. Needed: 18 supers, including four children under 5 feet tall; 14 men of all ages.
