More than 2,000 guests are expected for the 2016 YWCA Career Women of Achievement Luncheon. Proceeds from the event will help support the organization’s community programs.
In addition to the previous announcement of the eight women who will receive Career Women of Achievement Awards, two scholarship winners will be honored. Angel Raquel Bush will receive the Charlotte R. Schmidlapp Scholarship Award, Fifth Third Bank, Trustee. A single mother and full-time student, she is studying business at Chatfield College. The Mamie Earl Sells Scholarship, presented by Kroger, will go to Sydney Mantell, a straight-A senior at North College Hill High School.
The Career Woman of Achievement honorees are Claudia M. Abercrumbie, president and CEO, The Abercrumbie Group; Karen Bowman, principal and sector leader, Deloitte Consulting; Christi H. Cornette, senior vice president of marketing, Cincinnati Bell; Laura Mitchell, deputy superintendent, Cincinnati Public Schools; Dr. Lakshmi Kode Sammarco, Hamilton County coroner; Sandy Berlin Walker, president/CEO, YMCA of Greater Cincinnati; Moira Weir, director, Hamilton County Department of Job and Family Services; and Susan B. Zaunbrecher, partner, Dinsmore & Shohl.
The keynote speaker will be author and women’s advocate Zainab Salbi. An Iraqi-American, at age 23 she founded Women for Women International.
Two previous honorees are chairing the luncheon. They are Dr. Monica Newby, president/owner, Newby Orthodontics, and Teresa J. Tanner, executive vice president and chief administrative officer, Fifth Third Bancorp.
