Girls on the Run to celebrate milestone

Saturday, May 7, 10 a.m., Paul Brown Stadium

As Girls on the Run International celebrates its 20th anniversary, the Cincinnati affiliate is gearing up for its next 5K.

“Girls on the Run Greater Cincinnati is proud to have served over 13,000 girls in 12 years,” said Mary Gaertner, executive director. “Thanks to dedicated coaches, volunteers, sponsors, partners and SoleMates, we are able to continue to reach more girls every year and provide scholarships to reach every girl with interest.”

The nonprofit organization is a physical-activity-based youth development program for girls in third through eighth grades. Volunteer-led teams meet twice a week throughout the season and participate in lessons that prepare the girls for a 5K, help foster confidence, build connections with peers and encourage contributions to the community through a service project.
The Cincinnati affiliate began in 2005 and served 3,000 girls last year.

The 5K is open to the public. Packet pickup will be May 6 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Girls on the Run Hyde Park office, 3330 Erie Ave., Suite 8.
