Covington buses become mobile stages and galleries

Friday, May 13, 11 a.m.-6 p.m., Covington public buses

Imagine you’re on a bus, mind numb, traveling from Point A to Point B. You’re worrying about the bills, the errands, and … suddenly, people on the bus start dancing.. And on another bus, classical musicians play … and acoustic guitar and drums… And three other buses have been transformed into an art installation for a day.

Public transit and art will connect riders with their neighbors during a series of days dubbed “Ride with an Artist.” Pones Inc. and the Transit Authority of Northern Kentucky are teaming up for the free pop-up art experiences. For the cost of bus fare, riders will be transported in mobile stages and galleries on their way to school, work or home.

The routes and times:

  • Route #25, 9-10 a.m., drummer Liz Wu and guitarist Nick Rose-Stame, South American folk music.
  • Route #1, 2-3 p.m., Pones Inc. dancers
  • Southbank Shuttle, 5-6 p.m., a quarter from MYCincinnati, a youth orchestra program in Price Hill, classical music.
  • Three art installations up all day on bus routes traveling across the city on multiple routes.
