Ten girls have received scholarships through the YWCA’s Mamie Earl Sells Scholars program.
Presented by Kroger, the scholarship recognize African-American high school girls for academic achievement, leadership, extracurricular involvement and community service.
The scholarships are awarded each year in coordination with the YWCA Career Women of Achievement Luncheon, held in May.
Sydney Mantell, North College Hill High School, was the top winner, receiving $3,000. Runners-up Miracle Flowers of Western Hills High School and Janiah Miller of Newport High School each was awarded a $1,000 scholarship. Honorable mention and $250 awards went to Hemen Aklilu, Mother of Mercy High School; Leola Colvin, Clark Montessori High School; Precious Gary, Oyler High School; Danielle Udosen, Fairfield High School; Kayla Walker, Princeton High School; Felicia White, St. Ursula Academy; and Tianna Woodford, Purcell Marian High School.
