Saturdays, July 9, Aug. 6 and Sept. 3, 7:30 p.m., Devou Park concert bowl, Covington
In the 22nd edition of its summer concert series, the Kentucky Symphony Orchestra plans three family-friendly concerts. Over the course of the programs, the KSO will perform 48 selections that will have crowds dancing, clapping and singing along. Here’s the lineup:
- July 9 — “Pop Fitty (5 Decades of Pop — from The Beatles to Bruno Mars).” The KSO has all generations (as well as genres) covered, with such offerings as “Shake It Off,” “Ob-la-di, Ob-la-da,” “Vogue,” “We Are Family,” “Puff the Magic Dragon,” “Uptown Funk” and more. The Kentucky Governor Scholars will be back for the first time since 2001.
- Aug. 6 — “Catching the Sun.” The KSO unearths jazz gems by Chuck Mangione, Spyro Gyra, Eumir Deodato and Chick Corea.
- Sept. 3 — “Straussing Out.” The KSO preps for its 25th season with a Viennese New Year-style celebration with music by the family von Strauss. There will be choirs, cartoons, gunfire, musical saw, singing,dancing and audience participation.
The concerts are free, but a $5 donation is suggested. Parking in the park is limited. The TANK Shuttle will run from Covington Catholic to the band shell from 6 to 7:30 p.m. and after the concerts for $1 each way.
