Shaker Trace Nursery, located in Miami Whitewater Forest, has been awarded the Club Horticulture Commendation by the Garden Club of America “for visionary efforts in the restoration of Hamilton County lands, and the ongoing work propagating and distributing native seeds locally and nationally.” It was presented at the June 7 annual meeting of the Cincinnati Garden Club.
Great Parks of Hamilton County Shaker Trace Nursery staff and volunteers also were honored for their continued efforts in land preservation.
Shaker Trace, the largest publicly held native seed nursery in Ohio, is run mainly by volunteers who plant, harvest, process and store native seeds for land restoration within Great Parks. The nursery has more than 200 species of native plants. It also includes two aquaculture ponds where hybrid bluegill are raised for stocking Great Parks fishing lakes.
