Nine sommeliers will see who can identify wines and their origins in blind taste tests during the Somm Slam Prequel event at the Western & Southern Open.
Hoping to advance to the final at the Cincinnati Food + Wine Classic will be Lauren Gibb, Orchids at Palm Court; Kelly McCloud, Boca; Keegan Corcoran, Jeff Ruby’s Steakhouse; Alexandra Frederick, Liberty’s Bar & Bottle; Jenny Hicks-Kenneweg, Orchids at Palm Court; Chip Roig, Cork & Cap of Hyde Park; Kyle Elkins, Boca; Jonathan Kiviniemi, Martin & Company Wines; and Tony Schroeder, Wetherington Golf & Country Club.
The four top finishers will advance to the Somm Slam at the Cincinnati Food + Wine Classic, Sept. 23-25 at Yeatman’s Cove.
In both the prequel and main event, the sommeliers must blind taste and identify five vintages hand-selected by Mary Horn, a level III advanced sommelier. Seated guests will go nose-to-nose and palate-to-palate against the experts with the same five wines.
Prequel tickets are $40 with a valid match ticket.
