Saturday, Oct. 8, 6:30 p.m., Krohn Conservatory, Eden Park
Melodic Connections will stage its eighth anniversary celebration of music – Greenhouse Rock! – despite the August floods that damaged its Norwood location and many instruments.
The annual fundraiser supports Melodic Connections’ Music in the Schools program, which provides music therapy-based learning in 24 area schools. Melodic Connections is a nonprofit that empowers individuals with developmental disabilities through music instruction and performance.
“The flood hit us five weeks before our annual celebration of music at Krohn Conservatory,” said Betsey Zenk Nuseibeh, executive director. “We are working around the clock to restore our organization, but the show must go on!”
The event will feature local musicians The Chris Comer Trio, Ricky Nye Inc. and Vigor with Tammy Powell and Lanny White, as well as two performances by Melodic Connections musicians. Presenting sponsor is Contemporary Cabinetry East.
Founded in 2008, Melodic Connections serves over 450 individuals in its five programs: adult day conservatory, music in the schools, after-school music lessons, summer social skills camp and service learning. Services are provided by board-certified music therapists and are available to students ages 5 and up.
