Summermusik: Up close with the CCO finalists

Here’s a quick look at Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra’s Summermusik 2016 – with its 11 performances in 20 days. Audiences could opt for intimate and casual settings such as Bromwell’s Harth Lounge and Below Zero, where they could almost touch the players. Or they could choose Sunday matinees at arts centers and the Cincinnati Art Museum, or full chamber orchestra performances at the School for the Creative and Performing Arts.

The nontraditional venues were crowd favorites, with all seven selling out. Summermusik also served as the audition for four of the five finalists for CCO music director. And audiences not only watched and listened, but got the chance to weigh in on candidates Daniel Meyer, Christopher Zimmerman, Sarah Ioannides and Eckart Preu. The fifth candidate, Kelly Kuo, led the orchestra last summer. The decision by the CCO board could come within weeks.
