If there’s one thing to which dog owners can attest, it’s the special connection with their canine pals. But few relationships are as remarkable as the bond shared between a young man named Jacob and his skilled companion dog, Kanue.

Nonverbal and wheelchair-dependent, Jacob was paired with Kanue thanks to Companions for Independence. From day one, Kanue provided friendship as well as assistance with daily tasks like retrieving dropped items and sales transactions.

Partnerships like Jacob’s will be celebrated at Canine Companions’ DogFest Walk ’n Roll Cincinnati. The morning will begin with a walk through the park and include face painting, a costume contest for dogs and their owners, a 50/50 raffle, silent auction and agility demo. All proceeds from the event will go to Canine Companions for Independence, a nonprofit organization that provides highly trained assistance dogs to children, adults and veterans with disabilities.
