Lyceum hosts pioneer in body+machine

The Bethesda Foundation will host its Bethesda Lyceum, an annual social and fundraising event, featuring keynote speaker Dr. Hugh Herr. A dinner will precede the program.

Herr – a biomechanics pioneer, author, extreme athlete and founder/director of the Herr Institute for Human Rehabilitation in Cambridge, Massachusetts. – had his lower legs amputated after a mountaineering accident in high school. Since then, he has dedicated his life to helping people overcome debilitating hardships.

As director of the biomechatronics group at the MIT Media Lab, Herr researches ways to advance technologies to accelerate the merging of body and machine.

Proceeds will help with the development of the Robotic Center of Excellence at Bethesda North Hospital.
