Family Nurturing Center hosted more than 300 supporters at the 2017 Blue Ribbon Bash at Jack Casino.
Proceeds from the Bash, which raised more than $50,000, will help support the center’s mission of child abuse treatment, prevention and education services. The blue ribbon is the international symbol for child abuse prevention.
Board member Tasha Turner of The Kroger Co. served as event chair, and she also spoke of her own experience with childhood abuse and her resiliency to be a survivor.
“It takes great courage to speak in front of people, but particularly to share such a personal and painful story,” said Jane Herms, the center’s executive director. “Yes, it raised awareness of the issue of child abuse, the prevalence, the impact and the resources available. And yes, it raised funds to support our range of child abuse prevention, education and prevention programs. But most important, it carried a message that someone in the audience needed to hear.”
BB&T Bank was presenting sponsor.
Local 12’s Bob Herzog entertained the crowd with his enthusiasm and, of course, dance lessons. His support went over the top when he auctioned off his own retro-style blue denim jacket.
