Cincinnati Chamber to honor ‘shining examples’ of civic leadership

The Cincinnati USA Regional Chamber is honoring three graduates of its leadership programs for their professional successes and other contributions to the betterment of the region.

Given annually, the Nelson Schwab, Jr. Distinguished Alumni Award recognizes graduates of the Cincinnati Chamber’s Leadership Cincinnati program. The immersive, 10-month development and civic engagement program supports established leaders in c-suite or senior executive positions who are looking to find new ways to make a difference in their communities.

The award honors alums who’ve become “shining examples of what we hope every graduate and every civic leader in our community works to become.”

Since its creation in 1985, the award has gone to 42 individuals. Joining that list this year are:

  • Wym Portman, president of Gallatin, LLC (Leadership Cincinnati Class 10)
  • Barbara Turner, founder and CEO of BT RISE (Leadership Cincinnati Class 40)

The Cincinnati Chamber launched Leadership Cincinnati 47 years ago. Since then, the nonprofit organization has gone on to add a variety of other leadership programs – WE Lead, Hello Cincy: Executive, C-Change, Cincy Next – focused on cultivating civic leadership for individuals at every stage of professional growth.

This year, the Chamber is introducing a new award, the Civic Quotient Award, to honor a graduate of a Leadership Center program who demonstrates a “high CQ” in their work to collaboratively improve the public good. The inaugural CQ Award recipient is Kiana R. Trabue, president of HealthPath Foundation. Trabue was a member of the WE Lead Class 16.

The Cincinnati Chamber will recognize the award recipients Sept. 10 during its annual Leadership Center Celebration at Megacorp Pavilion.
