Social Venture Partners has chosen six local organizations to take part in the latest round of its Project XLR8, a business accelerator only for nonprofits.
Participants earned selection based on their focus on innovation, promoting equity and how well they fit with SVP’s engagement approach. The multiphase program provides mentorship, business training and financial support to help the nonprofits turn socially innovative ideas into thriving programs.
Organizations taking part in the initial Explore Phase of Project XLR8 are:
- City Gospel Mission, expand its Little Village program, an innovative early childhood development initiative.
- Leadership Council for Nonprofits, to launch A Force for Good, a program designed to tackle the nonprofit sector’s workforce challenges.
- Oh She Built That, to introduce the Traveling Woodshop, empowering young girls in woodworking and STEM fields through accessible workshops.
- Rising Leaders Cincinnati, to establish a Leadership Institute to equip young adults affected by childhood trauma and poverty with essential leadership skills.
- Sew Valley, to spearhead the revitalization of the local soft goods manufacturing sector through sustainable practices and skilled worker training.
- Your Store of the Queen City, to operate Meiser’s Fresh Grocery and Deli as a community-driven, nonprofit social enterprise in Lower Price Hill.

“We were blown away by the ingenuity and passion demonstrated by nonprofits across our region,” said Chris Chen, co-chair of SVP-Cincinnati’s board. “Their projects have the potential to reshape our community, addressing critical needs in areas ranging from the arts and education to health and economic empowerment, impacting both urban and rural landscapes.”
About Project XLR8
Provides hands-on, in-depth coaching, training and collaboration for local nonprofits that want to help people reach their full potential in a time of increasing disparities in health, income, education and opportunity.
As part of the annual Project XLR8 initiative, the organization hosts three phases over eight months and SVP awards unrestricted grant money to participating nonprofits at each phase of the program.
During the first 12-week Explore Phase, SVP will lend their extensive expertise in finance, marketing and fundraising, collaborating closely with these nonprofits to refine and amplify their impactful ideas.
Two to three nonprofits will advance to the next 12- to 16-week Lift Phase, where they’ll perform a deep dive into the specific areas of business expertise needed to make their ideas a reality. Ultimately, SVP will select one idea as the focus of a sustained, multiyear community investment.
