Music & Event Management, Inc. and EVT Management Services are partnering with La Soupe to expand food rescue operations across Greater Cincinnati.
As the largest chef-led initiative in the region, La Soupe bridges the gap between food waste and food insecurity. Every week, the nonprofit collects around 25,000 pounds of fresh food, which its team of chefs transform into high-quality soups and meals for those at risk of food insecurity.
Since 2014, La Soupe has rescued over 6.5 million pounds of food and shared more than 3.5 million high-quality servings.
To enhance its mission, La Soupe works with volunteers and over 150 local partners, including grocers, farms, restaurants, manufacturers, and distributors, to keep potential meals from going to waste. This partnership with MEMI and EVT Management is the latest addition to the program.
MEMI, a subsidiary of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, operates major music venues and theaters, such as The Andrew J Brady Music Center and Riverbend Music Center. EVT Management Services, based in Cincinnati, provides food and beverage to several of those venues.
In May, the organizations launched a food rescue program that collects fresh, edible food that would otherwise go to waste and distributes it to local social service agencies. So far, MEMI and EVT have donated 4,651 pounds of food, providing 3,811 meals to individuals and families struggling with food insecurity.
In a statement, MEMI and EVT leadership said this partnership with La Soupe is a way for them to create a “healthier, more sustainable community.”
“By repurposing excess food products and working alongside La Soupe, we’re not only preventing food waste but also ensuring that those in need have access to nutritious meals,” said Rosemarie Moehring, MEMI’s VP of marketing.
