Public invited to CPS’ State of Schools address on Wednesday

Cincinnati Public Schools’ interim superintendent will deliver the district’s annual State of the Schools address on Wednesday night.

Shauna Murphy’s public talk will take place at Mayerson Theatre on the campus of the School for Creative and Performing Arts on West Central Parkway in Over-the-Rhine. Doors open at 5:30 pm. and the address will begin at 6 p.m.

Shauna Murphy

This will be Murphy’s first State of the School’s address since taking over the role in May following the resignation of Iranetta Wright, who was with the district for two years. Murphy has been with CPS since 1999, having worked as an elementary and high school principal and assistant superintendent, most recently serving as chief of student, family and community engagement.

Murphy’s address will center around the proposed next phase of CPS’ Performance, Redesign, Sustainability and Growth plan, which aims to enhance educational opportunities and maintain operational efficiency across the district.

The multiyear undertaking, in consideration of Cincinnati Board of Education’s ad hoc committee report, aims to reimagine the district as a system of schools, according to the CPS website. The District Performance, Redesign, Sustainability and Growth plan, in alignment with the district’s Strategic Plan, will guide CPS’ work to provide enhanced education and services, and equitable opportunities for all students.

The State of the Schools address will be open to the public, but attendees must pre-register for the event as there’s limited seating. Translation support is available. The speech will also stream live on CPS’ Facebook page. The district will also make it available on-demand on Facebook and its YouTube page.
