Help Children’s Theatre, Gold Star honor top local teachers

Has a Tri-State teacher or educator made an impact on you or someone in your life? Help recognize them as part of the annual Gold Star Teacher of the Year awards program.

For the sixth year, Gold Star is partnering with The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati to honor local teachers through The Gold Star Teacher program. Through Dec. 20, parents, students and community members can nominate teachers who’ve displayed a commitment to education and their students.

This year, 10 finalists will each receive a gift basket. It includes a $100 Gold Star gift card, a “Will Teach for Coneys” T-shirt and four tickets to a TCT show.

The grand prize winner will take home a $2,000 grant and their school gets $1,000. Plus, all students and staff get meal vouchers. The winner also gets a basket of goodies and a special TCT event for 30 students and two adults.

Gold Star President Roger David praises teachers for their sacrifices. He sees this program as a way to say ‘thank you.’ TCT artistic director Roderick Justice shared that sentiment, saying it’s important to highlight the difficult but important work of teachers.

Since 2020, nearly 3,000 teachers have been nominated. Last year’s winner was Christen Bonfield from Campbell County Middle School in Northern Kentucky. She was one of more than 900 nominees.

“The Gold Star Teacher program is one of our favorite events of the year. It brings to light all the wonderful work they do to bring knowledge and inspiration to the next generation of learners,” said Justice. “Our partnership with Gold Star continues to grow each year, and we continue to be impressed by the great individuals serving our students.”
