XU president named honorary chair of Best Point holiday drive

Best Point Education and Behavioral Health has named Xavier University President Colleen Hanycz the honorary chair of its 2024 Help Us Give Smiles (HUGS) campaign.

The HUGS campaign brings “joy, warmth and hope” to children and families in need during the holiday season. By donating toys, warm clothing and essential items, residents can make a lasting impact, ensuring every child experiences the comfort of a new coat or the excitement of a special gift.

In announcing the chair position, Best Point described Hanycz’s commitment to philanthropy and community service as embodying “the spirit of Best Point Education and Behavioral Health mission, making her the ideal ambassador.”

“Her support not only highlights the importance of our mission but also motivates us to continue our work with even greater passion and determination,” said John Banchy, the organization’s president and CEO.” Together we can make a significant impact and bring hope to those who need it most this holiday season.”

There are four ways the community can take part in the campaign:

  • Sponsor a child or multiple children: Fulfill the holiday wishes of children in our community by sponsoring their gift lists. Each child receives two to three wish list items along with essential clothing like socks, underwear and sweatpants. Sponsorships range from $75-$100 per child.
  • Make a monetary or gift card donation: Those interested can make donations via check, cash or online. Best Point said gift cards are especially welcome.
  • Purchase Items for the Best Point Resource Center: Shop from a curated wish list to support both the HUGS gift drive and Best Point’s year-round Shipley Resource Center, which provides vital supplies to families in need. Items donated help children communicate with mental health professionals and receive the care they need.
  • Volunteer to pack and deliver gifts: Help Best Point spread holiday cheer by volunteering personal time. Volunteers will sort, pack and tag gift bags or assist with delivering them. Best Point needs volunteers throughout December.

“The HUGS campaign is a powerful reminder of the impact we can make when we come together as a community,” Hanycz said. “By providing toys, clothing, and vital resources, we are not only meeting immediate needs but also offering hope and dignity to those who need it most this holiday season.”
