An entrepreneurship program for the military and veteran community is recruiting for its next cohort.
DAV – a veteran-focused nonprofit created by veterans in 1920 and chartered by Congress in 1932 – will host the next DAV Patriot Boot Camp Feb. 5-7 at its national headquarters near Cincinnati. Founded in 2012, the free program connects transitioning service members, veterans and military spouses with resources to scale and grow their businesses.
Over the course of three days, the “vetrepreneurs” will experience presentations by experts covering an array of topics, including funding and capitalizing a business; avoiding common legal startup mistakes; deploying marketing and sales strategies; and storytelling. Another key topic is pitching, which will come in handy as the boot camp will culminate in a pitch competition. Three finalists will later compete to win thousands in non-dilutive capital during the virtual Patriots Pitch competition.
Dozens of mentors will be on hand to provide help with pitches and offer insights into their business plans.
Some of those mentors are DAV Patriot Boot Camp alumni, including Yusuf Henriques, founder and CEO of IndyGeneUS AI, a genomics company. The former Army combat medic said his experience and connections from the program prepared him to respond to an unexpected merger and acquisition offer.
“And we ended up walking away from the opportunity because I had the counsel and advice of seasoned people in mergers and acquisitions,” Henriques said.
Applications for the DAV Patriot Boot Camp can be found at patriotbootcamp.org/patriot-boot-camp. There are limited seats available.
