Flurry of snowflakes sends support to kids at Ronald McDonald House

Tri-State residents joined together to create almost 7,000 snowflakes, sending a flurry of hope and holiday cheer to the children and families staying at Ronald McDonald House Charities of Greater Cincinnati.

The annual Send a Snowflake campaign invites community members to complete an online form to have a snowflake hung in their name. Each snowflake represents a gesture of support and compassion, reminding families far from home that they are in the hearts and minds of many this holiday season.

From Nov. 12 through Nov. 26, the community generated a total of 6,742 snowflakes that now fill the Ronald McDonald House. The submissions more than doubled last year’s total.

Leaders of the Avondale facility described the “overwhelming response” as bringing “joy and warmth” to its 177 guest families living this holiday season. Many of these families are far from home and the cherished traditions they typically enjoy.

“One guest grandmother stopped me to share how wonderful it was to see the community care for families in this way,” said RMHC Communications Manager Sarah Curry who described the snowflakes as providing a “flurry” of love and support.

“These snowflakes are a constant reminder that our guests aren’t alone and people they have never met are thinking of them this holiday season,” she added. “That is a wonderful gift to give to people far from home, so thank you on behalf of our entire team.”

In addition to the snowflake campaign, the Ronald McDonald House keeps a “wish list” that allows those interested to buy gifts or donate to support guest families. The list receives an update throughout the year.

“Your contributions, no matter how small, can make a significant difference in their lives,” Curry said.
