Mayerson JCC’s CEO to retire at end of 2025

After 13 years as CEO, Marc Fisher plans to retire from The Mayerson JCC at the end of 2025.

President Jen Stein and President-elect Bob Oestreicher have formed a search committee, with the help of a search consultant, to find and hire the next CEO. The organization plans to announce the next CEO by the end of June to ensure a seamless transition when Fisher steps down at the end of December.

“I often tell people this is the hardest job I’ve had, but it has been the most meaningful and rewarding experience of my career, serving the community in which I grew up and want to see thrive for my children and future generations,” said Fisher, who has dedicated over 35 years of his professional career to the Cincinnati Jewish community.

Under his leadership to the JCC, the center has flourished, with significant growth in membership, Early Childhood School enrollment and community services. Fisher received credit for building strong partnerships with the Jewish Federation of Cincinnati and The Jewish Foundation of Cincinnati, helping to launch critical programs like Shared Business Services.

“Throughout my time at the J, it was important to me that our programming reflected the diversity of our community,” Fisher said. “Not everything we offer is for everyone, but we hope you see yourself in something we offer.”

Fisher also led the JCC through the challenges of the 2020 pandemic. Since then, the JCC’s programming has expanded significantly, both in terms of the number of people served and the variety of offerings, all aimed at connecting people and creating a more vibrant Jewish community. He also oversaw the completion of the JCC’s first major renovation since its opening.

“Marc’s ‘can do’ attitude has led to countless new initiatives, including programs like J Baby, PJ Library, Under One Roof, and Theatre at the J,” said Stein. “Under his leadership, collaborations with many Jewish and non-Jewish community partners have thrived. He will be leaving the JCC in a very strong position.”

Leaving a lasting legacy

Even after his formal retirement, Fisher will continue to strengthen the roots he has created and the strong connections he has formed among the local Jewish community over the past several decades. 

Before becoming CEO, Fisher was president of the JCC board. He currently sits on the board of the JCC Association of North America and has held past roles as president of the Jewish Federation of Cincinnati and Cincinnati Hillel, as well as a board member of The Seven Hills School.
