CYC seeks local mentors to give ‘1 hour a week’

Cincinnati Youth Collaborative is celebrating National Mentoring Month this January by offering opportunities to join its mission of empowering youth to overcome barriers and succeed in life.

National Mentoring Month, launched in 2002 by MENTOR, recognizes the positive impact of mentors and advocates for mentorship in creating more equitable communities and workplaces.  To that end, CYC will hold virtual training sessions for new mentors on Wednesday, Jan. 22, and Monday, Jan. 27, for those interested in learning how to become a mentor this year.

CYC offers a range of mentoring options. Through one-on-one mentoring, CYC pairs an adult with a student. Group mentoring brings together a team of mentors who share the responsibility of regularly meeting with a group of students. Examples of this include after-school programs like CYC’s Girls Club, Saturday Hoops and UC Med Mentors.

There’s also a corporate mentoring program, which helps students focus on achieving academic success, developing work readiness skills and participating in job site visits.

“At Cincinnati Youth Collaborative, we see firsthand how a mentor’s guidance can empower students to overcome barriers and reach their full potential,” said CEO Amy Thompson

“Our programs are designed to meet students where they are and help them succeed in education, career and life,” she continued. “I encourage everyone to take this opportunity to make a difference —just one hour a week can change a young person’s future.”
