Great Parks honors MLK’s legacy with annual cleanup

Members of the Great Parks team observed Martin Luther King Jr. Day by partnering with community volunteers to beautify the Roselawn area surrounding the Great Parks Nature Center at The Summit.

The Martin Luther King Jr. holiday is a national day of service that honors the life and legacy of the civil rights leader. For several years, Great Parks has teamed up with community volunteers on this day to clean up the area near the Nature Center and along Summit Road.

This year’s effort resulted in the collection of 17 bags of trash and two bags of recyclables.

The Great Parks Nature Center at The Summit, a collaborative effort with New Prospect Baptist Church, offers opportunities for children and families to connect with nature through park-related crafts, nature-themed activities and live animal experiences.

There are details about upcoming Great Parks events and programs online.
