Findlay Market to honor Jim Scott with street renaming

Fans of the Findlay Market Opening Day Parade will have two events to celebrate next week.

On Tuesday, market officials, city leaders, and family and friends of “Good Ol’” Jim Scott will gather at the corner of Race and Liberty streets near Findlay Market for the official unveiling of “Jim Scott Way.”

Scott is a well-known name to many in Cincinnati, both because of his long-running morning show on 700 WLW and his years of volunteerism and support of charities across the region. He also served as the longtime voice of the Findlay Market Opening Day Parade, an event he attended every year for more than 50 years, starting in 1968 when he moved to Cincinnati.

In 2024, Findlay Market selected Scott to serve as honorary grand marshal of that year’s parade both to recognize his decade of involvement with the event and to raise awareness about his public battle with Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis or ALS, formerly known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.

Tragically, Scott passed away on June 24, 2024, just a few months after his final appearance in the parade.

To recognize Scott’s indelible mark on the parade and Cincinnati, the Corporation for Findlay Market worked with the parade committee and the Office of Vice Mayor Jan-Michele Lemon Kearney to get the honorary street-name change approved.

The location of the street sign marks the starting point for the Findlay Market Opening Day Parade. Just two days after the ceremony, on March 27, more than 160 groups will make their way down the street for the 106th rendition of the unofficial Cincinnati holiday.

Speakers at the sign dedication ceremony will include Lemon Kearney and members of the Findlay Market Opening Day Parade Committee. Jim’s wife, Donna Hartman, will be in attendance as well.
