St. Vincent de Paul Northern Kentucky announced ABB Optical Group Labs as the winner of its second annual “Food Fight Against Hunger,” a friendly competition that brought in more than 2,300 pounds of food and supplies to support local families.
Between March 24 and April 7, 14 teams collected nonperishable food, diapers, hygiene products, household goods and pet food to help stock SVdP NKY’s food pantries during the busy summer months. ABB Optical Group Labs claimed the top spot, donating more than 800 pounds of supplies. Last year’s champion, Payroll Partners, finished second.
The “Food Fight Against Hunger” competition will help SVdP NKY prepare for an annual spike in demand as children lose access to school meal programs, the organization said in a statement.
“This year’s weight almost doubled last year’s total of 1,200 pounds, which is a tremendous blessing,” said Becca Gerding, SVdP NKY programs director. “In 2024, we provided over $1.1 million in pantry assistance to more than 39,000 people facing food insecurity. As local families continue to struggle with rising grocery costs, this need continues to grow, especially over the summer when many children are out of school.”
