Scripps Fund awards nonprofit grants in honor of 513 Day

The Scripps Howard Fund has awarded $508,000 in grants to 25 nonprofit organizations in the Greater Cincinnati area that support childhood literacy and basic needs.

The announcement coincided with 513 Day, a local celebration held on May 13 to honor Cincinnati’s 513 area code. The Fund, a public charity established by The E.W. Scripps Company and based in the city, invests hundreds of thousands of dollars annually in nonprofits focused on improving outcomes for children living in poverty.

This round of grants went to organizations that provide direct services such as summer reading programs, literacy tools for underserved students and essential resources for families in crisis. Recipients include the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Cincinnati, Queen City Book Bank, Lighthouse Youth & Family Services and the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, among others.

Funding supports a range of efforts, including the purchase of books and technology, expansion of reading programs and the creation of home libraries.
