United Way of Greater Cincinnati is calling on the community to help provide school supplies to at least 3,000 students across the region through its annual Backpacks for Success initiative.
Volunteers can support the effort by purchasing items from a virtual shopping list, assembling backpacks with friends or colleagues, or distributing supplies at local back-to-school events. United Way will accept donations through July 16 and deliver the backpacks to elementary, middle and high school students in Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana.
“We want children to have the resources they need to start strong this school year and reach their full potential,” said Moira Weir, UWGC’s president and CEO. “Education is transformative, and your support can help ensure students have a full and fair opportunity to succeed.”
The annual initiative reflects United Way’s mission to promote educational success and economic well-being across the region. Donors, corporate partners and local organizations have helped double the size of the effort over the past three years.
Here’s how volunteers can contribute:
- Shop online: Purchase school supplies for students from United Way’s virtual shopping list.
- Host an assembly event: Use a supply list from United Way to buy and pack backpacks, then deliver them for distribution.
- Volunteer in person: Join a group of up to 10 people to distribute backpacks at community events.
Supporters can drop off donations Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., at United Way’s front desk at 2400 Reading Road, Cincinnati.
