Grant to help Joseph House expand services to local vets

A $100,000 grant from Hamilton County and the city of Cincinnati will help expand recovery support for local veterans facing addiction and homelessness.

The funding, part of the OneOhio Local Government Funding Allocation, will allow the creation of a senior certified peer support specialist position at Joseph House, a recovery center for veterans based in Camp Washington.

“As veterans and military families continue to face the aftermath of multiple deployments, combat and a range of visible and invisible injuries, Joseph House’s integrated approach to clinical treatment cares for the physical, mental and emotional aspects of their healing journeys,” said Alicia Patterson, executive director of Joseph House.

Joseph House has served veterans in Greater Cincinnati for more than 30 years, offering holistic treatment to help clients stabilize, recover and rebuild their lives.

With the new specialist, the nonprofit will be able to better onboard clients, develop personalized housing plans and connect veterans to critical services. The role will also support Joseph House’s inpatient treatment program by leading individual and group counseling sessions and providing education on substance use disorders and relapse prevention.

Beyond counseling, the specialist will help veterans navigate benefits, income, employment and housing – all part of the broader mission to support long-term recovery.
