Dean Woodring, a seasoned educator and advocate for early learning, is the new president and CEO of 4C for Children.
Woodring takes the reins from Vanessa Freytag, who is retiring after 10 years leading the organization. As CEO, she will guide 4C for Children’s efforts to strengthen early childhood education by supporting families, child care providers and educators across Southwest Ohio and the Miami Valley.
“I am honored to join 4C for Children at such a pivotal time,” said Woodring. “Together with the dedicated staff, board, and community, I look forward to expanding on the organization’s legacy and deepening its impact.”

An advocate for innovation and equitable access, Woodring has held leadership roles across public schools, higher education and national organizations over the past three decades. Most recently, she served as deputy director of education for the American Montessori Society, where she expanded teacher education programs and professional development offerings.
She previously held several leadership roles within Cincinnati Public Schools, including director of school leadership, where she served as a liaison between schools and the district office. She also worked as a teacher and principal at Cincinnati’s Clark Montessori High School – the nation’s first public Montessori high school. Her career also includes serving as assistant superintendent of teaching and learning for Wellesley Public Schools in Massachusetts.
“Dean is a dynamic leader whose experience and collaborative approach are exactly what 4C for Children and the community need to continue the essential work of building strong educational foundations for children by being a valued resource for the adults who care for them,” said Board Chair Stephanie Byrd.
Woodring holds a doctorate in education leadership from Harvard University, a master’s degree in English literature from Middlebury College, and multiple teaching and administrative licenses in Ohio. Outside of her professional work, she is an active community volunteer, board member, and business owner.
“Child care is the backbone of a thriving community, and I’m eager to start working with families, providers, and partners to ensure every child has access to quality care and early learning experiences,” Woodring said.
