Weezer, Maren Morris and Mt. Joy will lead the lineup for America’s River Roots Festival, a five-day music and culture celebration along the Ohio River this October.
Organizers announced the first performers Tuesday. Mt. Joy – a five-piece indie rock band – will headline Friday, Oct. 10, followed by alternative rockers Weezer on Saturday and Texas-based singer-songwriter Maren Morris on Sunday at Smale Riverfront Park. They plan to reveal a Thursday night headliner in the near future.

The free riverfront festival, part of America’s 250th anniversary celebration, expects more than 1 million visitors. Between Oct. 8 and 12, the event will showcase over 100 acts across seven stages, spanning blues, gospel, bluegrass, rock, country and more.
Other confirmed artists include Cincinnati folk-rock duo Over the Rhine, country trio Chapel Hart and jazz drummer Harvey Mason. Performances will take place at Sawyer Point, Covington, Newport and near the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center.
More artists and the final headliner will be announced later this summer.
“The river transported, created and shaped the music we know today – from jazz, blues, R&B, gospel to rock,” said Tena Clark, the festival’s executive music director.
Beyond the traditional concerts, River Roots also offers cultural programs through music, including:
- Sounds From the River – Cincinnati musician Kathy Wade leads an interactive concert and curriculum exploring musical traditions along the Ohio River.
- Spirit of America Gala – A ticketed event on Oct. 7 at Music Hall featuring the Cincinnati Pops, Opera and Ballet.
- King of Them All: River Roots Edition – A collaboration with afrochine celebrating Cincinnati’s King Records through stories and documentary footage.
- Riverboat cruises – Showcasing music from historic river cities like Memphis and New Orleans.
Tickets for main stage shows and the Spirit of America Gala go on sale Friday, July 11, at 10 a.m. at americasriverroots.com. Organizers will offer admission to all other performances for free.
“Music is at the heart of America’s River Roots,” said Susan Fisher, the festival’s executive director. “This year’s lineup delivers something for everyone – from favorites to fresh sounds and experiences.”
