ArtsWave opens Inspire Artist Grants application process

ArtsWave is offering up to $10,000 for local artists to create projects that reflect the lived Black and Brown experience. Applications for the Inspire Artist Grants run through Oct. 27.

The program, now in its sixth year, supports both new artwork and career development for under-represented artists in Greater Cincinnati. Emerging artists may apply for up to $5,000, while practicing artists can seek up to $10,000.

Artists chosen for funding will present their work in July 2026 at the Contemporary Arts Center and join a yearlong cohort.

“Any artist who can authentically create such work is encouraged to apply, regardless of personal background,” ArtsWave wrote in a statement. The grant-making organization noted that it will also consider social impact projects that take place in neighborhoods alongside performances, exhibitions and other creative work.

The Inspire program is partnership with the City of Cincinnati, Duke Energy, Cincinnati Children’s and Greater Cincinnati Foundation. Past cohorts have explored themes such as truth, reconciliation, healing and innovation.

In 2024, 26 artists received funding that led to a film festival, visual art exhibition and live performances.

To select this year’s winners, a review panel will evaluate applications based on eligibility and how projects advance ArtsWave’s Blueprint for Collective Action, which focuses on bridging divides, fostering empathy, strengthening neighborhoods and deepening roots in the region.

ArtsWave will host a grant overview session on Zoom at noon Oct. 2. Artists can find details, guidelines and resources at artswave.org/apply.
