Disc golfers have a new reason to visit Miami Whitewater Forest. Great Parks has completed a full renovation and expansion of the Harrison course, doubling it from nine to 18 holes and adding new features designed to improve play and enhance the natural landscape.
Among the most significant additions are alternate playing options – each hole now has two basket targets, allowing for multiple course layouts and catering to different skill levels. New tee signs and concrete pads were also installed, while crews removed invasive plants and plan to add native trees and shrubs later this fall.
“We are proud to complete another improvement envisioned by the residents of Hamilton County with this beautiful new course at Miami Whitewater Forest,” said Great Parks CEO Todd Palmeter.
Public input ‘drives’ course improvements
The upgrades stem directly from community feedback. During the creation of its Park and Facility Master Plans, Great Parks gathered input from residents across Hamilton County, who consistently asked for enhanced and expanded disc golf options. Those requests have guided a series of recent course renovations throughout the park system.
The revamped Miami Whitewater Forest course is the third in the Great Parks network to receive a full update, following improvements at Winton Woods earlier this year and Woodland Mound in 2023. Players can also enjoy a shorter nine-hole course at Embshoff Woods Nature Preserve, which is slated for renovation next year.
Project funding came from the 0.95-mill, 20-year Great Parks levy approved by Hamilton County voters.
“This is yet another levy legacy project, with upgrades that will be enjoyed by guests for years into the future at one of our most popular destinations,” Palmeter said.
