Help neighbors in need by raking leaves, cleaning gutters to prepare homes for winter
People Working Cooperatively’s annual fall volunteer event, Prepare Affair, is Nov. 15. This is designed as an opportunity to gather friends, coworkers, church groups or students in need of community service hours to make a difference.
Throughout the month of November, nearly 2,000 volunteers of all ages and skill levels will be giving of their time by raking leaves, cleaning gutters and pulling weeds at the homes of seniors, veterans and people with disabilities living on low or fixed incomes. The goal is to help prepare those yards for the winter months.
“Prepare Affair is a special event because it unites thousands of local volunteers who simply want to make a difference for their neighbors,” said Jock Pitts, president of People Working Cooperatively. “Tasks like raking leaves or cleaning gutters may seem like a simple weekend chore for you or me, but for a homeowner who can’t physically manage them, it’s an incredible gift. During Prepare Affair, we’re able to not only improve the look of these homes and yards but also help restore pride for the homeowners and create a meaningful, lasting impact in our community.”
The main participation day for Prepare Affair is Saturday, Nov. 15, and lunch will be provided back at PWC’s headquarters in Bond Hill. If volunteers aren’t available that day, they are invited to schedule their service on any day in November that works best for them.
