Caffè Vivace makes DownBeat’s guide of Best Jazz Venues

Caffè Vivace has earned a spot in DownBeat Magazine’s 2026 Best Jazz Venues Guide, placing the Walnut Hills club among a select group of performance spaces recognized for their contributions to the art form.

DownBeat – one of the country’s longest-running jazz publications – issues the annual guide to highlight venues that its editors and contributors judge notable for artistic quality, sound, consistency and commitment to jazz. Touring musicians, managers and booking agents use the list when planning performances, which often shapes where artists choose to play.

The recognition boosts Cincinnati’s visibility beyond the local scene by signaling that the city supports credible spaces for live jazz, according to Caffè Vivace owner Brent Gallaher. He noted that his hope is the listing will also help attract audiences and touring acts who seek established venues.

Jazz Vivace, the 501(c)(3) nonprofit connected to the East McMillan Street club, promotes jazz in Greater Cincinnati by cultivating a space where world-class musicians and local artists perform regularly.

Gallaher, who’s also a noted jazz saxophonist and founder of Jazz Vivace, said he hopes the selection to DownBeat Magazine will affirm the club’s approach to presenting jazz in a way that speaks to enthusiasts and newcomers alike.

“We are honored to be recognized by DownBeat,” he added. “This acknowledgment recognizes and celebrates our mission to support artists and create a welcoming space where great music can thrive.”
