The Cincinnati Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired is teaming up with TriHealth to help older adults with vision loss stay steady on their feet.
The organizations will offer “Stepping On,” a free, seven-week program designed to reduce fall risk and boost confidence for adults aged 65 and older. The series kicks off Feb. 18, at The Commons in CABVI’s Walnut Hills campus and runs Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to noon through April 1.
“Falls are common among older adults, and vision loss further increases that risk and the potential for long-term health challenges,” said Aaron Bley, chief mission officer of CABVI, a century-old nonprofit that helps more than 3,000 people across the region each year adapt to vision loss.
With “Stepping On,” CABVI will host sessions featuring TriHealth experts, including occupational and physical therapists, a pharmacist, a vision specialist and a community safety expert. They’ll share practical strategies on balance exercises, medication safety, home hazard reduction and outdoor mobility. Participants will also learn about the role of vitamin D and calcium in preventing fall-related injuries.
Caregivers and family members are encouraged to participate alongside their loved ones.
“We are proud to partner with the experts at TriHealth to deliver this essential support to our community,” Bley said. “By focusing on prevention, the program equips participants with techniques to help protect mobility, reduce preventable injuries and support healthier lifestyles.”
Those who want to participate must make reservations. To do so, contact Kathy Kessler at Kathy.Kessler@cincyblind.org or 513-487-4217 by Jan. 28 to reserve a spot.
