Master Provisions has completed construction on a new, larger facility in Independence, Kentucky, giving the nonprofit more capacity to distribute food locally to those in need.
The move marks a major expansion for the faith-based food bank, which supplies food and other resources to soup kitchens, shelters, recovery centers, food pantries and schools throughout the Greater Cincinnati region.
Founded in 1994 by Roger Babik, Master Provisions has redistributed more than 32 million pounds of food since 2014. The organization partners with more than 240 nonprofits across 26 counties, helping provide more than 121,000 meals each month in Kentucky, Ohio and Indiana.
The new facility on Toebben Drive significantly increases storage and distribution capacity. Its 30,000-square-foot footprint, combined with vertical racking, allows for 10 times the pallet storage of the previous location. A 3,000-square-foot cooler and freezer more than doubles the organization’s ability to handle refrigerated and frozen food.
“God has blessed our ministry with this building, and we are excited to watch Him fill it with the resources our communities need to thrive,” said Master Provisions’ president, Shane Armstrong.
To mark the opening, Master Provisions will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony and open house May 14 from 3 to 6 p.m. at its new location.
The event will include remarks from President Armstrong, followed by a ribbon cutting, refreshments and self-guided tours of the building.
The open house is free and open to the public.
“This grand opening represents a significant milestone for us, and we look forward to sharing this moment with our neighbors and friends,” Armstrong said.
