The Flying Pig Community Scholars Program has awarded $20,000 scholarships to 24 high school athletes from across the region who compete in track and field or cross country.
Students from public and private schools in Northern Kentucky, Cincinnati and throughout southwest Ohio received the awards. Organizers recognized them last week during the annual Flying Pig Community Scholars breakfast at Music Hall.

Pig Works, the philanthropic arm of the Flying Pig Marathon and its related events, runs the scholars program. It awards $20,000 scholarships — distributed as $5,000 per year — to student-athletes who compete in cross country or track and field. Leaders select recipients based on community service, passion for running, and core values including dedication and teamwork.
Flying Pig Marathon founder Bob Coughlin launched the program in 2018. Since then, the program has grown from a single $2,500 award in its first year to $20,000 scholarships for 24 students. Beginning this fall, it will have committed $1.32 million toward the education of 66 students.
Support comes from the Bob and Jeanne Coughlin Foundation, Jeff Clark, Steve Haussler, Oxford Financial, Chuck Schmalz, Stacey Browning, Bobby Slattery, Iris Simpson-Bush, Barbara Hauser, Skyline Chili and Chiquita, according to Pig Works.
At the breakfast, Pig Works also presented the Spirit of the Pig Award to former board member and longtime volunteer Mary Enzweiler. Pig Works Board Chair Mark Ramler delivered the keynote address.
