More than 200 artists from Greater Cincinnati and across the country will showcase and sell their work when the Hyde Park Square Art Show returns this fall, continuing a tradition that has grown into Greater Cincinnati’s largest one-day art show.
The free event will take place Sunday, Oct. 4, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the corner of Edwards Road and Erie Avenue. Organizers expect more than 3,000 visitors to browse original works in painting, sculpture, photography, ceramics, jewelry, fiber, leather and other media.
“We’re excited to be bring both returning favorites and first-time artists to the Square during the Show,” said Janet Smith, a longtime organizer of the annual event. “It’s a wonderful place to discover and buy original art, which the artists always appreciate. But it’s also a celebration of our amazing creative community.”
Since its founding in 1966, the Hyde Park Square Art Show has grown from the vision of two local business people into an annual event that supports artists of all ages. Participating artists are selected through a juried process led by art educators, gallery owners and their peers.
There’s also an arts education component, including support for young artists through a college scholarship program. This year’s recipients are Max Cleghorn of Xavier University, studying graphic design; Skylar Daniel of Northern Kentucky University, studying ceramics; Tram Dao of the University of Cincinnati College of Design, Architecture, Art and Planning, studying fashion design; and Carr Smith of Mount St. Joseph University, studying art education.
“The show isn’t just about established artists,” Smith said. “It’s also a chance to celebrate talented young artists from area schools. Supporting the next generation through scholarships is one of the things we’re most proud of.”
