Handel’s ‘Messiah’ headlines Collegium Cincinnati’s 2026-27 season

Collegium Cincinnati has announced its 2026-27 season, featuring the ensemble’s annual performance of Handel’s “Messiah” and works spanning centuries of sacred and secular music.

The Greater Cincinnati musical organization, which is based at Christ Church Cathedral, will present four programs during the season. Its season opens Sept. 27 with Associate Artistic Director Manami White leading a group of local instrumentalists in what’s described as an intimate chamber music concert.

Artistic Director Stephan Casurella will conduct the ensemble’s annual performance of Handel’s complete “Messiah” on Dec. 6. The beloved oratorio tells the story of Jesus’ life, death and resurrection through choral and solo movements, including the famous “Hallelujah Chorus,” which has become a holiday tradition.

The March 21 program pairs Josef Rheinberger’s “Stabat Mater” with Benedict Sheehan’s “The Passion of Mary,” conducted by Casurella and featuring Collegium Cincinnati’s vocalists and instrumentalists.

The season closes May 9 with organist and harpsichordist Michael Unger leading members of the ensemble in a program of “airs sérieux et à boire,” featuring 18th-century French sacred and secular music by Jean-Baptiste Drouart de Bousset, Élisabeth Claude Jacquet de La Guerre and others.
