Hamilton County has two major animal welfare organizations, the 153-year-old SPCA Cincinnati and 6-year old Cincinnati Animal CARE. Both are humane societies and no-kill organizations. Cincinnati Animal CARE also runs Hamilton County’s animal shelter, which the SPCA used to operate. In its 20 years, the Ben Carlson-Berne Scholarship Fund has provided around $1 million to middle and high school students who want to take private music lessons but can’t afford them. A new partnership with the UC College-Conservatory of Music’s Prep Division will ensure the fund’s future and expand its mission.
