Patti Collins is between business calls and picking up her grandson at preschool. She is dressed in red boots and a pink hat. The wife of “bring on the funk” musician Bootsy Collins, she is quick to laugh and quick to get to the point: “I am married to a legend, but I’m just Patti: a little country girl from New Richmond.”

Each year, the Association of Fundraising Professionals presents awards to several individuals or organizations at its National Philanthropy Day Luncheon… Rosa Nemec is in her sixth year of running the Year of the Girl program. It introduces girls in fourth through sixth grade to STEM-related fields and encourages their interest in STEM disciplines.

Abdullah Powell, creative director at Elementz, Cincinnati’s urban arts and hip-hop youth center, came to the University of Cincinnati from Columbus with the intention of being a computer engineer. Behind the scenes, though, another interest kept tugging at him.
