It ain’t summer until the crazy lady sings, at least that’s the case this year. Cincinnati Opera opens with works from 1835 (complete with “mad scene”) and 2021 this week, along with the debut of a new piano competition and the return of a newish chamber festival, while the 2022-23 theater season finally comes to a close. Lots of dynamic offerings this week – including AI art – as evidenced by a record eight (8!) embedded videos. This is transition time, from regular season to summer season, so expect the unexpected. But May Festival remains embedded in our culture like clockwork – 150 years and counting. Amazing.

Culture FIX: May 10-16

This week begins with a film about office work and ends with a talk about how finding a place to put your car at work shapes our lives. But there are many other options in between: scads of arts and crafts (indoor and out), music (Duke Ellington to Electro Swing to Mambo), more films (from small town Mass. to revolutionary India to a Filipina country singer), hip-hop poetry and soil-to-soil fashion. Goodness!

Culture FIX: May 3-9

Ok, Winter. Don’t let the door hit you on the way out. We are looking ahead to balmy, busy late spring days, such as the ones below. Am I right? Feast your senses…
