Quick quiz: Which of these things does not belong with the others? Jazz harp. A sharp-eared fox. An extra day. Thirsty goats. A Sausage Queen. A pot of stew. A pile of food cans. And plenty of beer … Answer: They all belong, of course, in this week’s Culture FIX of varied, intriguing and sometimes unpredictable events.
If this week’s culture agenda doesn’t get you off the couch, nothing will. Visual art takes a commanding lead with a bevy of exhibit openings. If music is your gig, the CSO plays a crowd-pleasing program of Mozart favorites (no, there won’t be “too many notes”), while Christ Church Cathedral music tunes up, again, after their busy holiday season. Enjoy!
Is it cold enough for you yet? Now that actual winter weather has arrived, many of us may feel that instinct to just hibernate and watch football. And yet, good reasons do exist to get out and participate in Cincinnati culture this week. The calendar may be thinner than usual, but there’s still a good selection of events to warm that winter chill.
If too much shopping and singing and decorating have you in a squeeze, take a night off and relax with something outside of your holiday norm. And this being our last Culture FIX of 2023, make sure to check out TICKET WATCH at the bottom of this column for remaining December events you should get your tickets for NOW! Have a warm and festive holiday season and see you next year.
The leaves are raked, the lights are up, the turkeys have been picked clean (and so, some say, have the Bengals) … And now, ’tis the season! Make way for a feast of holiday fare: “The Nutcracker,” “Messiah,” “Feast of Carols,” “White Christmas,” “Advent Lessons” and other favorites highlight the week.
Halloween is over and all the scary stuff is behind us, right? Oh no, not at all, culture fans! The coming week is haunted by the specters of a flaming Ferrari, a headless body, a demon barber, a witch, a giant, a mermaid, a Big Fish, a substitute-teacher nun and – most frighteningly of all – four ersatz singing Swedes.
