Theater everywhere! Two world premieres, to boot. Enjoy young dancers and opera stars at CCM. Hear the storied Miami University Men’s Glee Club. Bicycles as art? How about some mountain climbing with the CSO? Learn how to publish your great American novel or see a great movie. Have fun!
The votes are in, and this week’s lineup of Cincinnati arts and cultural events is officially a winner. Several outstanding classical-music concerts lead the way, but if you’re looking for theater productions, art exhibits or traditional holiday events, they’re on the list too.
The fact that our city can support dozens of smaller galleries and community theater groups, plus children’s performing ensembles and music in churches at lunchtime speaks to how deeply the love and appreciation of arts and culture runs in us. To say nothing of the talent! Have a look and find something new, something smaller-but-mighty to experience this week.
Bach’s B Minor Mass is surely a must-hear, this week, but that’s not to say there’s nothing else of import happening around us. Women’s History Month kicks off at the Harriet Beecher Stowe House. The Jewish Music Festival and Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra share music created in concentration camps. Imani Winds is not your father’s woodwind quintet. The arts are indeed about beauty, but the arts also teach.
We’re at that awkward stage in Culture FIX this week: Some events still mark our bleak midwinter, while hints of Mardi Gras and (dare we say it?) spring start elbowing their way in. Throw in the revival of a dreaded vampire and an invasion of toothy furry creatures and some atrocious puns …
If too much shopping and singing and decorating have you in a squeeze, take a night off and relax with something outside of your holiday norm. And this being our last Culture FIX of 2023, make sure to check out TICKET WATCH at the bottom of this column for remaining December events you should get your tickets for NOW! Have a warm and festive holiday season and see you next year.
Halloween is over and all the scary stuff is behind us, right? Oh no, not at all, culture fans! The coming week is haunted by the specters of a flaming Ferrari, a headless body, a demon barber, a witch, a giant, a mermaid, a Big Fish, a substitute-teacher nun and – most frighteningly of all – four ersatz singing Swedes.
